No Property Tax Penalties for Renewables
MCGUINTY GOVERNMENT ENCOURAGES CLEAN ENERGY PRODUCTION
Fair and Predictable Property Taxes Benefit Ontarians
QUEENS PARK ─ The Ontario government today announced a new, more equitable property tax assessment for privately operated windmills.
“We want to ensure that the property assessment system doesn’t deter homeowners or farmers from taking steps to supply their own clean energy,” said Minister of Finance Greg Sorbara. “That’s why we’ve developed a new assessment policy for residential and farm properties with wind turbine towers.”

Future Friendly Houses are Worth More
Future Friendly Houses Are Worth More, Today and Tomorrow.
I often ask clients if they would purchase a home with a non-performing roof. Invariably the answer is no. Why, in a climate like ours, are buyers not looking closely at the home energy efficiency? In Toronto we have intense Heating needs in winter and significant Cooling needs in the summer. There is a consumer shift happening, and home owners who miss opportunities for energy efficiency may find their resale values affected.

sustainability_definition
The ability to provide for the needs of the world’s current population without damaging the ability of future generations to provide for themselves. When a process is sustainable, it can be carried out over and over without negative environmental effects or impossibly high costs to anyone involved.

The Colour of Light
Compact fluorescents are great in many ways but I want to find one that emits similar colours to a tungsten bulb. I have experimented with many varieties of CF’s but even the ones describing warm natural tones, all seem too green to my eyes. I’ve heard similar complaints from numerous clients and interested folk but haven’t found the solution.

Welcome to the Lighten Up, Ontario! – a simple way for everyone in Ontario to say “Yes, I believe in conservation!”
A big thank-you to Colin Mochrie for lending his support and a special thanks to all the groups and companies across Ontario that are helping to promote this campaign. This summer’s campaign is a first step in building a strong and long-lasting commitment to energy conservation across Ontario.
Step one: Make your pledge today: “This year, I will use less electricity.” If you haven’t been contacted by one of our participating groups, you can make your pledge online.

The envelope, please.
Time and time again I hear that the best way to improve the energy efficiency of your vintage Toronto house is not with the more glamourous installations of solar panels and geo thermal heat pumps, but by simply spending money on sealing the envelope of the building. In order to get your home closer to net-zero energy usage, stopping the uncontrolled exchange of air that occurs through uninsulated walls, ceilings, leaky doors and windows will likely save you more in energy cost per dollar spent than any other improvement.
