Green Realtor Supports the Green Energy Act
B150 is an important piece of legislation.
The time of sale energy label is of particular importance to achieving the
13.8% energy production target from conservation.
I teach Realtors all over the province about climate change and energy
inflation. The consistent feedback regarding energy efficiency is that the
market is apathetic or uneducated about energy issues when purchasing.
Bill150 has the power to enable Ontario Realtors to put a value on home energy
efficiency, from insulated walls to GeoThermal heating systems, disclosure of
household energy performance is paramount to monetising energy efficiency at
time of sale.

Solar-power feed tariffs windfall for homeowners
Solar-power feed tariffs windfall for homeowners

Ontario’s power authority has proposed paying 80.2 cents for every kilowatt-hour it buys from a residential rooftop solar system.
That’s rich. It amounts to an 82 per cent increase over the previous rate offered under the province’s standard offer program, which was launched two years ago but failed to stimulate large-scale deployment of rooftop systems that was envisioned.
This time the government is more serious about driving demand. The ambitious aim is to see 100,000 solar rooftop systems deployed across the province as a result of the newly proposed rate, which is called an advanced feed-in tariff.

For years sustainablists have been pushing the corporate sector to go green. A key question or doubt has hung over this push—will consumers really buy green stuff? For years pundits have pointed to polls that show that consumers are interested in buying green. The results have been mixed, if not downright negative, with green product sales often failing to live up to expectations.

(Toronto, Ontario) Ontario’s Minister of Energy and Infrastructure,
George Smitherman, announced today that the Ontario Power
Authority (OPA) will be establishing a system of feed-in tariffs as a
result of the pending Green Energy and Green Economy Act.
Minister Smitherman also released OPA’s proposed tariffs for a
host of renewable energy technologies.
If implemented, the package of tariffs will represent the first
application of Advanced Renewable Tariffs in North America. The
system of feed-in tariffs envisioned by Minister Smitherman is a
Canadian version of the successful policies used in Germany,
France, Spain, and several other European countries.
OPA will begin public consultation on the tariffs and elements of

Green Energy Act to Deliver Valuable Information to Consumers and Realtors
Mandatory time of sale energy labelling appears to be coming to Ontario. The Province of BC, the United Kingdom and myriad global jurisdictions have implemented time of sale energy labelling to protect consumers. Time of sale energy labelling will protect the home owning public from housing affordability issues in the face of energy inflation. The concept of a numeric index to score the ‘eco-friendliness’ is not new, but Green Energy Act Proposes a mandatory time of sale energy rating.

Home Energy Rating Act - Setting the Record to Customer Benefit
Location, location, performance
The cardinal rule of real estate is no longer location, location, location –21st century real estate is all about energy performance. This starts with home energy assessments. Helping the real estate industry and the home buying public to distinguish the energy performance of housing can only be accomplished en masse with time of sale energy assessments. And when analyzed, many of the opportunities to improve energy performance are profitable investments made more attractive by grants and incentives.

Mandatory Energy Audits Green Energy Act Real Estate
McGuinty defends mandatory energy audits; says home buyers will get more clarity (**>Ont<**-Green-Energy-Act) TORONTO _ Premier Dalton McGuinty is defending a plan to saddle homeowners with a mandatory $300 energy audit as part of his Green Energy Act.
McGuinty says forcing people to conduct audits is a good idea because it will allow buyers to know what their energy costs will be.
He says home buyers are entitled to know what kind of costs they will incur at the time of purchase and make comparisons ``on an apples to apples basis.’’

Ontario aims to set continental standard with Green Energy Act
Ontario aims to set continental standard with Green Energy Act
Monday February 23, 2009 is a big day in Ontario, and potentially across Canada. The Ontario government will be tabling comprehensive green-energy legislation that, if it lives up to promises, will blow open the market and make Ontario *the* place in North America to develop renewable-energy projects and establish manufacturing and supply chains to support them. It will equally emphasize energy conservation, putting Ontario potentially in the league of Denmark, Germany and California.

REALTORS® Ask City Budget Committee to Consider Impact of Land Transfer Tax
TORONTO, February 18, 2009 – With a deputation to the City of Toronto’s Budget Committee today,
Toronto’s REALTORS® are asking Council to consider the impact of the Toronto Land Transfer Tax on the
City’s economy.
“The current state of the economy requires every level of government, including the City, to take action,” said
Maureen O’Neill, President of the Toronto Real Estate Board (TREB). “Not only does the City need to consider
what it can do to help, but also what it is already doing that is hurting the economy. Clearly, the Toronto Land
Transfer Tax is hurting the economy.”
