Global Warming is Not Proven

People used to think the world was flat. The difference between that Scientific Era and this time is that the survival of the biosphere on the planet was not at risk then. Today, individual and societal decisions matter, and Canada is in a position to take a leadership role in the world.

Credibility in the Marketplace

Where in the world of black and white (& green) does grey fit in?
Many companies are beginning to see the market potential of the new, earth conscious consumer. Some are making sure they look right by offering some “green” products in their line up of goods and services. How should a consumer feel if 5% of company x’s offerings are sustainable products but the other 95% don’t apply. Should this be perceived as a step in the right direction or hypocrisy? How can one judge whether or not the company plans to increase the green percentage or wants to cash in on an eager market?

sustainability_definition

The ability to provide for the needs of the world’s current population without damaging the ability of future generations to provide for themselves. When a process is sustainable, it can be carried out over and over without negative environmental effects or impossibly high costs to anyone involved.

The factual debate about whether global warming is real is, or at least should be, over. The question now is what to do about it.

Toronto’s Water Efficiency Plan

Toronto’s Water Efficiency Plan

Did you know that in the City of Toronto, the average residential water use is about 253 litres per person per day? With every litre of water pumped weighing 1 kilogram, that’s a tonne of water needed for a family of four each day. Compare that with the 1.23 billion litres per day of water that must be supplied to all residents and businesses in the city. With a population of 2.59 million residents, that amounts to 77 million toilet flushes a day.

The Colour of Light

Compact fluorescents are great in many ways but I want to find one that emits similar colours to a tungsten bulb. I have experimented with many varieties of CF’s but even the ones describing warm natural tones, all seem too green to my eyes. I’ve heard similar complaints from numerous clients and interested folk but haven’t found the solution.

Lighten Up Ontario

Welcome to the Lighten Up, Ontario! – a simple way for everyone in Ontario to say “Yes, I believe in conservation!”

A big thank-you to Colin Mochrie for lending his support and a special thanks to all the groups and companies across Ontario that are helping to promote this campaign. This summer’s campaign is a first step in building a strong and long-lasting commitment to energy conservation across Ontario.

Step one: Make your pledge today: “This year, I will use less electricity.” If you haven’t been contacted by one of our participating groups, you can make your pledge online.
