Cadorin Homes Challenge Realtors to LEED Way to Green Realty

Green Realtors key to real estate market transformation happening in Canada
Realtor Challenge launches LEED development in Toronto
Toronto, ON November 17, 2009… Despite market instability, the green real estate
market is flourishing in the US, and indicators point to similar movement here in Canada.
Green Realtors are changing the mainstream real estate landscape and Ontario is rising
as a leader with the new Time of Sale energy label legislation passed earlier this year.
Savvy purchasers are beginning to seek realtors with specific expertise in sustainable
home building. As LEED, EnergyStar and other sustainable building standards become
commonplace, realtors emerge as the conduit to connect consumers with energy
efficient developments and healthy homes.
“The growing community of Green Realtors represents a major shift in the Canadian real
estate market”, says Bill Johnston, chair of Toronto Real Estate Board’s Green Task Force.
Recently, Cadorin Homes launched a luxury LEED registered development in North
Toronto in conjunction with a Green Realtor Challenge to find realtors with the
knowledge base to communicate the value proposition of their sustainable homes to the
marketplace.
It used to be consumers would choose a realtor based on their neighbourhood expertise
or word of mouth. Now, as Green Realtor, Chris Chopik says, “realtors are increasingly
helping clients understand the value of high performance healthy housing and making
sense of high performance standards such as LEED, EnergyStar and EnerGuide, while also
becoming the expert on the damaging impact of toxins, mold and chemicals.”
The Future of Green Realty
The Cadorin Homes Green Realtor Challenge invited realtors to compete for the LEED
registered listing by demonstrating their ability to market and sell sustainable homes.
“For this grassroots shift to take shape, realtors needed to understand the emerging
market for sustainable homes and communicate this to buyers” says, Lynn Da Pra of
Cadorin Homes.
The Green Realtor Challenge set out to find the cream of the crop in green realty, and
chose three teams, dedicated to delivering more value to the end client. The winning
realtors were: Marc Paillé of Bosley Real Estate; the Bosley Real Estate “Green Team” of
Elspeth Sinclair, Pat Laughren and Carolyn Marit; and Ryan Coyle of Remax Unique.

housing in Toronto.
