German Energy Efficency

Energy Efficiency in Buildings

In Germany, the greatest potential to save energy is offered by existing buildings: These use around three times more energy for heating than new buildings. In addition, around 87% of the total energy consumed in a private household is required for space heating and hot water. Up to 80% of this can be saved with a professional refurbishment and modern building services. The fact is, however, that only around a third of the energy savings potential is exploited on average in a refurbishment project.

dena initiates showcase pilot projects.
Everyone involved profits from energy-efficient construction and refurbishment: tenant and landlord, the skilled trades, the environment and the economy. In close cooperation with politicians, scientific institutions, industry, associations and market protagonists, dena therefore develops nationwide information and motivation campaigns and showcase pilot projects which have a long-term influence on the investment decisions made by private and public property developers and home owners. Our message is: Energie sparen. Wert gewinnen, which translated means Save energy. Gain value.

Main projects
Efficient Homes
Old buildings which have been refurbished in an energy-efficient fashion require a lot less energy than comparable new buildings. dena’s project “Efficient Homes” proves in 143 buildings that energy-efficient methods of construction can reduce the energy requirements of a building by up to 80% on average.

Energy-efficient construction in China
China’s energy requirements are increasing relentlessly, a fact which also applies to the building sector. dena supports investors and decision makers in the planning and construction of climate-friendly, low-energy buildings – protecting our climate and using energy efficiently.

Energy Performance Certificate
As energy prices rise, energy-efficient buildings are becoming increasingly attractive. The dena Energy Performance Certificate shows the energy efficiency of a building and also provides concrete advice on how refurbishment can save energy.
