Shop for Locally Produced Food and Receive Dividends

A successful local farm and food production economy ensures that in the face of rising energy costs food is protected from transportation related inflation. So make a point of hugging your farmer. Get as close to your farmer as you can, and support your local farmers and farm businesses. If you live in Toronto there are numerous opportunities to buy produce from local producers year round.

My personal favourite farmers market is the Dufferin Grove market. Every Thursday year round you can connect with local farmers and organic food producers at the market between 3pm and 7pm. The market is located south of Bloor on Dufferin across from the Dufferin Mall. Find a farmers market near you http://www.toronto.ca/events/markets.htm.

Differin Grove has become a hub of community activity. The local children’s gardens contribute to Toronto’s permaculture and gives children a strong connection to the natural environment and the food they eat. Learn more about Children’s Gardens http://www.dufferinpark.ca/gardens/wiki/wiki.php.
