wHOLE in your Home Show
provides a one stop shop for busy homeowners
trying to make their houses more energy efficient
TORONTO (October 9, 2009)
Ward 21’s Green Together project is announcing an event where homeowners have the opportunity to address all of their energy needs.
With cold weather coming, now’s the time to make our homes more energy efficient, and stop air leaks so common in older homes. Project organizers have recognized that homeowners are strapped for time and are providing a ‘one stop shop’ on a Sunday afternoon.
The Eco-Energy Fair (called the wHOLE in your HOME SHOW) is aimed at streamlining the process of booking an energy audit, meeting with contractors, and getting valuable support and information from community members who have done similar work.
The Fair will take place on Sunday, November 1st, 1:00-4:00 pm, at the Wychwood Barns (Christie, 2 blocks south of St. Clair). People will be able to:
• Learn about home energy audits – what they’ll tell you and how to use them to get government rebates. Meet certified auditors and sign up for an appointment on the spot.
• Meet with experienced contractors used by neighbours to discuss options for insulation, draft-proofing, energy-efficient furnaces, instantaneous hot water heaters, ENERGY STAR windows, and more.
• See displays of solar systems, and talk with experts about the options and whether one is right for you.
• Get help from trained Green Together volunteers who can answer your questions and help you get started!
There is no better time to do this work. The federal, provincial and municipal governments are now providing substantial rebates for improving a home’s energy efficiency. The federal government is also offering a 15% tax credit on home improvements.
The Fair is hosted by Green Together, a project of Green Neighbours 21; the project is funded by the Ontario Trillium Foundation and the Ontario Ministry of the Environment’s Community Go Green Fund. It helps homeowners tackle energy upgrades and secure government grants through the ecoENERGY retrofit program. http://www.gn21.ca greenneighbous@yahoo.ca
